Doesn’t underground construction reduce environmental impacts?
While burying transmission lines places the facilities out of sight, it has a significantly more damaging footprint than overhead facilities. It requires highly invasive trenching along a right-of-way that would be kept completely clear of trees. Restoration options are limited and would likely prohibit even many native prairie grasses because of their deep root systems.
