No, the proposed new high school is not being built on a swamp. There are areas within the proposed building footprint where the water table is as high as 3 feet below existing grade. Dewatering activities for the building foundation construction have been included in the estimate and a drain tile system will be installed at the base of the footing to remove any water buildup against the foundation walls. Any surface water drainage will be properly designed and constructed to be directed away from all building structures and collected in a storm sewer system. The storm sewer system will be designed and constructed to handle, at minimum, the 10-year storm event with emergency overland overflow paths available if the systems capacity is exceeded or becomes plugged. All storm water runoff from the proposed development will be directed to a storm water management facility (i.e. detention basin) for quantity and quality control.
