Doesn’t Ontario already have enough power to meet its needs?

A. Right now, we do have enough power to meet our needs – but we’ll need more over the next two decades. Today, Ontario’s peak capacity is between 26,000 megawatts (MW) and 28,000 MW. Peak demand for electricity is expected to rise to 29,000 MW within 10 years and to 33,677 MW by 2027. To meet that demand, we need to refurbish, rebuild or replace almost 80 per cent of our installed generating capacity of more than 30,000 MW between now and 2025, as well as adding some new supply .
