Doesn de-annexing the land and rescinding the agreements mean the intermodal will be built elsewhere?
No. It just means it’ll be controlled and taxed by the City of Edgerton. BNSF has already invested over $60 million into this project, plus KDOT just applied for $50 million of Federal economic stimulus funds on behalf of BNSF for this development. BNSF has stated, quite clearly, that they intend to continue with this project on the land they’ve already acquired west of Gardner. Edgerton has agreed to annex the land Shepherd and Peters de-annexed. Edgerton has accepted agreements with BNSF and TAG that were similar to the ones Shepherd and Peters rescinded. Additionally, BNSF is currently moving equipment and materials, including 5 massive electric cranes, to storage facilities at New Century AirCenter. Clearly, the intermodal is going to be built right where they always said it was going to be built. The only difference is Shepherd and Peters gave the ability to tax and control the project to Edgerton. If you’d like to hear it directly from them, visit our video interviews page.
