I am embarrassed by the treatment that you went through. But do not talk nonsense. Thuggery and disrespectful youth is a problem faced by Americans too. Most countries in the west see this as an increasing problem and how not to handle it is to adapt a high and mighty tone of ‘how dare you’ suggesting somehow you are superior or above the youth, you are not and perhaps that attitude is one of the reasons you were started on. ‘Singular to Britain’ is the bit I object to, we do have a problem with disadvantaged or just plain lairy kids but to call it a singularly British thing really does show your arrogance. Lastly to refer to yourself proudly as a toff did make me giggle. Either you misunderstand the meaning of toff completely or your arrogance knows no bounds. Either way I feel less like clipping the ‘yoof’ around the ear and more like saluting their sense of judgement.
