Does Word Ventures market its books to traditional retail outlets and bookstores?
No we don’t. Doing so would constitute a traditional publishing model that we’re avoiding, for our sake and that of our authors. Pursuing this model would require that we tell most authors, “No,” and we far prefer telling them, “Yes.” The business model of the traditional printing and bookselling industry has made it all but impossible for new authors to become published. Traditional bookstores expect to receive copies of your book for free, to have up to 90 days to pay for them after they’re sold, and to get a full refund on books that don’t sell and that they return. This makes traditional publishing incredibly risky, financially, and explains why traditional publishers and bookstores now want to only take that risk on books they believe will sell mega copies. Our model removes all financial risk. There are no up-front costs for printing, warehousing, and shipping books; payment for purchased books is immediate; and there are never return fees which are then deducted from your royalt
