Does Windows Live OneCare collect any data from the user?
Helping promote the security and privacy of our customers is a key priority for Microsoft and MSN – and we’re offering the Windows Live OneCare as part of our continued efforts to help protect our customers. To enable this service to be as successful as possible in detecting and removing malware and helping to secure our customers, we collect data that helps us analyze the spread of malware and other PC health problems. This includes things like the name of the malware found in a scan and the locale of the operating system, which, in line with security industry practices, allows the service to spot trends in emerging threats and other issues that will help Microsoft be more responsive in meeting customer needs. Because we believe that protecting user privacy means providing clear notice to help our customers make informed decisions, we have taken steps to be transparent with very detailed information about the information we collect, why we collect it and how it will be used.
