Does western Mexico have hurricanes or some other type of tropical storms?
Yes. Hurricanes form over the eastern Pacific west of Central America and Mexico, but most of them head west, away from Mexico. A few storms, however, head north to hit the coast, which runs southeast-northwest, or even turn back to the east to hit. The season is from May 15 to Nov. 30, two weeks longer than the June 1-Nov. 30 Atlantic Basin season. You can learn more by going to the USATODAY.com Understanding eastern Pacific hurricanes page.
