Does Webspace warn that a file is locked?
I opened up a file the other day, made all kinds of changes, and then when I tried to save, it just told me that the file was read-only – not even who had opened it! No, Webspace will not warn you when you need to know. But if you suspect someone else might be in the file, you can look. Here’s how, in Webspace and in Xythos Drive: In Webspace: • Insert a “Locked by” Column, (if not already there) • In the upper right hand corner, click on View . • Choose the Document Manager Columns tab • Check Locked By • Before you open a file, check the “Locked by” column to see if the file is in use. In Xythos Drive: • Right-click the file, choose Manage, and then Lock Details • Look at the Lock Details to tell whether or not the file is locked A further wrinkle here: If, when you open the file, it has been locked by someone else, Xythos will see the file as read-only.
