Does wearing of burqa violate rights of women?

What he said about it being against France’s respect for women was very wrong, because burqa does not mean disrespect to them. In the Islamic teachings, women should wear hijab or veil. Regardless of what that means in terms of concealing the hair or face, burqa is one of many countries’ traditions and by banning it, Sarkozi has himself disrespected this symbol and the women’s right to choose whether to wear it or not. Although most people think that women wear burqa only because it is imposed on them by their fathers or husbands, they should take into account that many women also choose to wear it by their own will, because it is a common practice in their societies.
