Does WCPSS re-use building designs?
The Wake County Public School System re-uses the same building plans, with minor modifications to accommodate site differences. Prototypes save between three and six months of time, save between $300,000 and $500,000 and allow improvements of the design to be implemented. Currently, there are 17 prototypes representing 60 schools. Prototypes refer to any design used more than once, whether it is an entire school or an individual building. For example, West Lake, Creech Road, Durant Road and Davis Drive Elementary schools all have the same prototype design. Green Hope and Salem Elementary schools and Middle Creek and Yates Mill Elementary school share the same design. West Lake and Davis Drive Middle schools and Durant Road and Dillard Drive Middle schools share the same prototype design. The Wakefield middle design will be repeated at the new Holly Springs and Reedy Creek Middle schools. Green Hope (1999) and Wakefield (2000) High schools opened with the same design and are being used
