The WBT Manager web application’s user interface is standard HTML, with no Java applets, so there is no problem running it from behind a firewall. Versions prior to 2.1 used a Java applet to implement the SCORM API adapter. That adapter also used standard HTTP POST requests to communicate with WBT Manager and presented no problems with firewalls. With version 2.1 (and patch190_7 or patch200_3) the Java SCORM API adapter was replaced by a set of JavaScript objects. The XMLHttpRequest object built into current browsers is now used to communicate with WBT Manager. It also uses standard HTTP POST requests. The SCORM API adapter is not required for lessons which use the AICC HACP interface. There is a substantial amount of JavaScript used in the interface to provide key functionality. Despite the similarity of names, JavaScript is not Java and does not cause firewall or other problems.
