Does WALQ Seek To Stop Reconstruction Of US 59?
Not at all. Construction on US 59 along the Richmond / West Alabama corridor has been going on for years with only minor impacts on neighborhood traffic. No problem there. Spur construction will be dramatically different because TxDOT’s current plan calls for almost complete shutdown of the Spur — a road that carries some 80,000 vehicles per day and hundreds of commuter buses into and out of downtown. Dumping much of that traffic onto neighborhood streets is unsustainable, irresponsible and totally unacceptable.
