Does voluntary yearling buck protection work?
Not for the majority of hunters. For example, Delaware County’s hunter density is one hunter per 41 acres on small private parcels. This means that even if a hunter passes on a yearling buck, it is likely it will leave the area and that another hunter will harvest it. Very large land owners may have some success but not the success that would result from everyone protecting yearling bucks equally.
