Does VelocityHD Support Shared Storage?
VelocityHD is designed to support both local and shared storage for all components of a project, including media (video and audio), graphics, titles, and Project files. It’s important to recognize, however, that given the high bandwidth requirements of HD, it’s not recommended for multiple editors to be directly playing back multiple streams of high-quality (e.g. slightly compressed, or uncompressed) HD media from the shared storage simultaneously. The total required bandwidth would exceed the capacity of most cost-effective shared storage environments, and real-time performance would not be possible. (This is true in general, not just with VelocityHD). Instead, for uncompressed or lightly compressed material, it is recommended that the HD media be transferred from the shared storage to local storage on the editing workstation for real-time use. This can be achieved easily with the Localize function in the VelocityHD software. Material using greater compression (which will still yield
