Does using liquid fabric softener or fabric dryer sheets, remove the flame resistant qualities of childrens sleepwear?
Your apparel item should have a warning on the label somewhere explaining that “some” fabric softners liquid and sheets may affect the flame retardant properties. I have included a link from the Good Housekeeping website. Also here is a tip to help preserve the flame retardant qualities: According to the Department of Agriculture, when washing flame retardant clothing in phosphate-free detergent add 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. This will help the fabric retain its flame retardant properties. Sources: http://www.goodhousekeeping.
