Does used oil produce as much heat as kerosene?

No it does not – used oil generally produces more ‘heat per litre’ than kerosene. Obviously, the calorific value of the oil depends on the quality and source of that material, but we have seen a consistent improvement in used oil performance over kerosene of about 5%. Given that the water content of used oil can be up to 2% it is important to remember that the difference between the two is negligible, however 5% on a year’s oil supply in a large house equates to a small, but important improvement.
