In general, if it’s a sales job or something health related (even restaurant related, like being a chef), if the piercings can be seen, they’ll have to go or be covered. I have a 24 year old friend who graduated from culinary school as a chef. His problem is he has about 10 facial piercings and doesn’t want to take them out. He’s unemployed because each time he gets offered the job, they say “you’ll have to take the piercings out while you work” and he refuses. Really dumb of him, but that’s the health code – no piercings. In sales, it’s usually because they don’t want to alienate customers – but then, depending on the business it depends what they’re selling and to whom. If they’re selling camping equipment and stuff, then they’ll probably just have a general policy. However, in this day and age, when there are 20 people vying for every job, you don’t want to draw negative attention, and business types don’t go for piercings. It’s seen as “unprofessional”.
