The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign hopes to attract more students from Oakton Community College through an initiative designed to simplify the transfer process. Known as the U. of I.-Oakton Pathway to the Bachelor’s Degree, the program is one of 15 that have been launched at community colleges throughout the state since 2007, when the Lumina Foundation for Education awarded the university a three-year, $899,000 grant. The Lumina Foundation strives to expand access to and success in postsecondary education, particularly for people of underrepresented groups. Dan Cullen, the university’s assistant director of undergraduate admissions, said the university launched the initiative to become more proactive in reaching out to community college students.
