Does transcription the transfer of information from DNA to RNA only take place only when DNA is replicating?
Wow I can’t believe you don’t have any answers to this yet. The short answer is no. Transcription is occuring all the time, it is the process by which RNA is produced to make all the proteins your cells need. The process of transcription and DNA replication are regulated seperately. The regulation of transcription of specific genes is very complicated, but the simplest level of regulation to explain is: transcription factors responding to different environmental siganls recruit RNA polymerase to the gene promoter and initiate transcription. The RNA polymerase then produces the RNA. DNA replication is performed by DNA polymerase a different (but similarly named) enzyme.
