Does Timpanogos Academy provide smaller classes than a traditional public school?
There are many reasons to choose a charter school, and class size reduction is only one of them. Even if your child were to experience classes which were the same size as in a district school, he or she might still find a charter school to be a better choice because of the smaller overall school size, higher academic expectations, back-to-basics curriculum, increased behavioral expectations, and the greater degree of parent involvement. District schools’ class size numbers may sometimes be “massaged” to make them more palatable for parents. Averages may include specialty teachers and/or other staff members, even, in some districts, librarians and janitors, when calculating child-to-adult ratios. A school claiming low averages may have one class of 16 second graders (with a teacher whom many parents wish to avoid) and two other second grade classes with 29 students each.
