Does Timbuktu Pro for Windows support modem-to-modem connections between two Windows machines, or between a Macintosh and a Windows PC?
Timbuktu Pro supports connections between any two Macintosh or Windows machines; you can connect from Mac to Mac, Mac to PC, PC to PC, or PC to Mac. However, Timbuktu Pro for Windows does NOT have a built in serial protocol for direct modem-to-modem connections like the Direct Dial protocol that ships with Timbuktu Pro for Macintosh. The Windows version can run over TCP/IP (the Internet protocol) or IPX (the Novell/Netware protocol); please note, Timbuktu Pro does not support IPX in Windows NT. In order for a Windows PC to communicate with a remote machine, you can use one of the PPP dial-up solutions mentioned below, or the Internet. Remote access via a PPP connection, will allow you to transmit IP or IPX traffic over a modem (or ISDN) line. In order to accomplish this you will need a PPP Client installed on your machine and a PPP Server at the remote location you will be dialing in to. Windows 95 and Windows NT machines have a built-in PPP client called Dial-Up Networking. For Window
