Does this replace provision already made in the General Sure Start Grant for workforce training and development?
This element of the Transformation Fund is intended to supplement, not replace, provision already made in the General sure Start Grant for workforce training and development, and is for Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) providers only. It will be open to childminders who care for under 5s, providers of sessional care (playgroups) as well as full daycare settings of any size, run by the PVI sector. It offers support for training, additional to that normally undertaken, for staff to improve their qualifications to achieve a full Level 3 and up to Level 5 qualification in a relevant subject. In its response to the Workforce Strategy, the Government recognised the need to increase opportunities for the existing early years workforce to progress, and specifically to secure a higher proportion of the early years workforce in all settings qualified to at least level 3 (A level equivalent) by 2008.
