Does thermography diagnose breast cancer?
Infrared thermography is not a test for the diagnosis of breast cancer. It simply tells us which breast and which parts of the breast is more vascularized and has a higher temperature. This is not diagnostic in itself, that only being possible when a biopsy is performed demonstrating the finding of abnormal cells. How does Breast Thermography measure up against Mammography? With a normal thermagram, you can rule out breast cancer in the great majority of cases. The sensitivity of thermography appears to surpass that of mammography, meaning that a normal thermascan has a smaller chance of missing cancer when compared to a normal mammogram. On the other hand, although an abnormal thermascan could indicate cancer, it lacks the specificity to show whether cancer actually exists. This would require further testing, such as the use of ultrasound, MRI, and ultimately a tissue biopsy. Whats the evidence in support of Thermascan? Recent research indicates that an abnormal thermascan, in light o
