Does the wireless device communicating my natural gas usage speed up or slow down the gas meter?

The device has no effect on the operation of the meter. The wireless meter-reading device is simply a radio transmitter mounted directly to an existing gas meter. The device only counts the revolutions of the meter dials and communicates periodically through a wireless network to transmit readings. Remote meter-reading devices, like the ones used by Atmos Energy, have been in operation for more than a decade. In most cases, the meter is the same as it always was; only now the reading is transmitted to Atmos Energy every four hours.
