Does the Willed Body Program ever refuse to accept a body?
Willed body donors must be properly registered with our program prior to death to assure acceptance into our program. Also, certain approved 3rd-parties may donate a body at the time of death. The family should be made aware that if the donor died due to an infectious disease such as HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis, or Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease, or body weight is in excess of 250 lbs., has suffered a violent death, is a victim of suicide, or has had vital organs removed for transplant purposes, the body may not be accepted. The UC Irvine Willed Body Program strongly recommends that an alternative plan be put into place should the body not be accepted into the program at time of death. Local funeral providers can assist you in pre-arranging for the final necessity.
