Does the Welsh language have a purpose?
I think there always has to be a place for the old celtic languages. Although only a relatively small proportion of Welsh people speak the language, it is still part of Wales’s national heritage and as such some respect must be accorded to those who do speak it. That being said, if I were Welsh I would find being called “pseudo-Welsh” pretty insulting. Just as I would if somebody called me “pseudo-Scottish” because I don’t speak Gaelic. A person saying such a thing is simply displaying their ignorance and lack of knowledge of the history of the celtic nations. So, our remaining celtic languages such as Welsh and Gaelic must be preserved as part of our cultural identity, even if they don’t really contribute to our national identity any more (in the case of Gaelic it hasn’t for many hundreds of years, since Lowland Scots was adopted as the official language of the Scottish Crown). They should not be allowed to practically die out like other celtic languages such as Cornish and Manx. That
