Does the vaccination program take precedence over treatments, health care procedures, emergencies and other school nursing responsibilities?
No. School nurses are expected to provide treatments and perform other mandated nursing procedures in accordance with each students individual health care plan. Emergencies take precedence over the vaccination program. Q: What should school nurses do if they are unable to vaccinate students during the suggested time periods due to the press of other school health responsibilities or if they believe that they will not be able to vaccinate all of the students for whom consent has been received during the timeframe of the vaccination program? A: In either circumstance, the school nurse should contact his or her supervisor for assistance.
