Does the user have to update the map data every time Nokia Maps is used?
No, Nokia Maps uses hybrid technology – hybrid architecture meaning that basic world map (a bitmap image) is pre-installed on the device, and when more detailed map data is needed the device connects to the server via GPRS/3G/WLAN and downloads map data from the server on demand. All downloaded map data is stored on the device’s internal memory or memory card (if existing) so that the next time a map is loaded it does not need to be downloaded again. Through the settings, the users decide how much memory they want to set free for this data. Once the memory fills up, the oldest data is overwritten.
