Does the US Patriot Act undermine Americans freedoms?
Don’t bother pulling your blinds; privacy is a thing of the past. Don’t get comfortable, not even on your own couch, without the Fourth Amendment in tact, you’re not secure in your own home anymore. While reading, “What is Democracy” written by the government, I noticed they said “Democracies exist to serve the people; the people do not exist to serve the government”. I can’t help but wonder exactly when the government themselves stopped believing it. It doesn’t feel much like a free society anymore, especially since congress passed the Patriot Act six weeks after the September 11th terrorist attack, under the guise of anti-terrorism. But you need not be suspect of terrorism for it to intrude on your civil liberties. The fact is that the Patriot Act imposes on our civil liberties because in a free society, the government could never get away with searching your house without your knowledge, obtaining your medical, financial and library records or allowing for roving wire taps, all of w
