Veterans Communities As a Veteran would you be willing to help reopen a closed base in exchange for a residence? With all the Veterans that are homeless or living below poverty levels, an idea like this is too long in coming. In exchange for your services, you would be allowed to live in the community for as long as you like, this would include your spouse and any minor children. What ever you did in the service would be you job in the community. For example: An Electrician would be just that. The knowledge you have will not be wasted. A savings account would be set up for residents, 5% of their retirement or disability pay, to provide a nest egg for unforeseen expenses. Also, bimonthly a support unit from the local reserve would come in for ID cards, legal and pay questions. Not all Veterans are married; those who are not, would be able to move into barracks two to a room, with mess hall privileges included.
