Does the U of M Area Need Another Bookstore? Wednesday September 23, 2009#spacer{clear:left}#abc #sidebar{margin-top:1.5em}zSB(3,3) I read with great interest that a new Barnes and Noble store has been proposed for the University of Memphis area. As an avid reader, I love bookstores and as a general rule, believe that we can’t have too many of them. I have to wonder, though, if the U of M area can sustain its existing bookstores along with a new Barnes and Noble. For textbooks (which the new B&N would carry), students currently shop at the bookstore in the University Center (which is operated by B&N, by the way), the Tiger Book Store, or online. Seems like they’ve got that covered. For other books, there is a Bookstar (owned by Barnes and Noble) in the Poplar Plaza near the university campus. Since Barnes and Noble already has its hand in much of the book dealings around the campus, I can only assume that they expect
