Does the typical CNC hardware configuration include DRO(s)?

I am in the early stages of researching the CNC options. I am also about to add DRO to my lathe. If the DRO is a part of teh CNC equipment, I want to make sure that what I buy is compatible with future upgrades… (I assume that the CNC uses the servo closed-loop for position feedback, and not any DRO output…
