Does the typhoid vaccine hurt?
Many people remember the original typhoid injection (given before 1992), which often caused a very sore arm. The current Typhim Vi vaccine causes no more side effects than any other travel vaccine. Swelling and redness sometimes occur in the area that the injection is given. An oral vaccine (Ty21a) is available in some countries, but is no longer used in the UK.
