Long Islanders Advised To Keep An Eye On Danny Red Cross Issues Hurricane Alert To Residents Of Southern Shore Tropical Storm Danny Could Have Significant Impact On Weekend Weather NEW YORK (CBS) ― Tropical Storm Danny has strengthened a little in the Atlantic as it moves toward land. Forecasters say people in the Carolinas and northward to New England should monitor Danny’s progress. The American Red Cross issued an alert to Long Islanders on Wednesday, saying Danny is expected to develop into a hurricane that could threaten Nassau and Suffolk counties over the weekend. Danny has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 kph) early Thursday with slow strengthening expected over the next few days. Danny is centered about 575 miles (925 kilometers) south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., and moving northwest near 10 mph (17 kph).
