Does the thermal expansion coefficient of water vary with temperature?
Yeah, there’s a complicated formula for it. I’ll try to copy it here. Use Vo = volume of water at 0 degrees celsius V(t) = volume at temp t then V(t) = Vo(1+ alpha*t + beta*t^2 + gamma*t^3) alpha = -0.06427*10^-3 beta = 8.5053*10^-6 gamma = -6.7900*10^-8 Sorry, it’s not pretty, and the range shown for accuracy is only 0 – 33 degrees. Sucky. Most of the good data on the specific volume of water at different temperatures and pressures is in a table form. Additionally, I have 0.207*10^-8 as the expansion coeffecient at 20 degrees C. Hope that helps.
