A US PS3 will be able to play only Region 1 and Region 0 (i.e., region-free) DVDs, not DVDs from other regions. The games themselves are not encumbered by region coding, so any game from any country will play in a US PS3. Blu-Ray discs have a region coding scheme different than that defined by the DVD standard. A US Blu-Ray player is in Region A along with all of North America, South America, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
