Does the test work for a heavily coloured / sedimented sample?
Yes, we have in fact tested bio solids from a sewerage treatment plant in RCT S solids jars and found the sediment settled out, and the affect of the colouring agent was still extremely clear to the eye. The Micro Magic also is a self calibrating unit and takes it starting point from the colour of the sample in the first 5-10 minutes so we believe that it is likely to work satisfactorily with other biosolids with a pH>5.0. One of our aims is to study a range of bio-solids from different areas in the coming 12 months. Water from several locations on the Yarra River in Melbourne were also tested successfully. We have used the RCT S solids jars to test sewage contaminated soil of 70 samples from a catchment in a study conducted by University of Technology Sydney. In this case, we first removed the above ground litter (the A horizon) and then measured out 10 g of soil to put into the RCT S lid: this was compared with the results from Coliquik collected by sampling the fluid wash using a fi
