Does the teacher have to develop totally separate units and lesson plans to use the adaptive dimension for any type of program, whether it is an integrated modified or alternate?
Using the Adaptive dimension takes time and practise. So does providing integrated modified or alternate programming, but it is not necessarily more work and effort then is already happening. Students who are frustrated by inappropriate learning objectives misbehave. By being proactive and spending time insuring that not only are the objectives appropriate, but that the instructional techniques fit the individual, it is possible to get the student working with you, instead of against you. In using the adaptive dimension, the teacher only needs to adapt the part of the unit or lesson that the targeted student will require adaptations to in order to experience success in the unit or lesson.
