Yes, if a musician dies in the year the distribution check is issued, taxes are withheld from the beneficiary check. If the musician died in a prior year, no taxes are withheld from the beneficiary check. Canadian beneficiary checks are taxed in accordance with the respective Canadian Providence tax regulations.
