With so many fad diets popping up in the past decade, the South Beach diet has been one of the big players in the arena. The South Beach diet was created by Miami, Florida cardiologist Arthur Agatston in an attempt to help his heart patients cope with high blood pressure and heart disease. The diet concentrates on feeding the body “good” carbohydrates and fats such as lean beefs, fish, and vegetables. The programme takes the dieter through three phases in which certain foods are allowed and disallowed. After the three phases the dieter can lose a significant amount of weight because the body creates an insulin resistance syndrome in which the body cannot produce excess fat.
