Does the Society take positions on statewide ballot issues?
Yes. Several years ago, the Society began weighing in on statewide ballot issues impacting the profession, again to provide a unique perspective to Ohio CPAs. Recent examples include opposing both the minimum wage increase in 2006 and opposing mandatory paid sick leave in November 2008. Such issues are vetted through the Governmental Affairs Advisory Council, which typically involves presentations by proponents and opponents alike to obtain all necessary information. Final positions are voted on by the Society’s Executive Board. How can I learn more about the endorsement process? If you have questions about a particular endorsement or are interested in getting involved with a future endorsement process please contact governmental affairs at 800.686.2727.
