Does the sheme include provision for cyclists/pedestrians?
In order to obtain planning permission it was necessary to provide replacement landscaping on a one-for-one basis, where it was removed to build the busway. Although areas were identified at Cams Alder and on the embankment slopes of Gregson Avenue, the scheme relies on the retention and additional planting of the strips between the busway and the highway boundary. Under the scheme, shared-use pedestrian and cycle routes are provided between the busway and the surrounding areas. This includes an off-road route parallel to the busway between Tichborne Way and Military Road to retain the existing link. Cyclists wishing to travel on the busway between Tichborne Way and Redlands Lane can do so, as they travel on road. There is no pedestrian route along the busway, however, only to the bus stops from the surrounding area. To provide an off-road route for pedestrians and cyclists would require a 4m-wide path on one side of the corridor for nearly 300m. There is no area close to the corridor
