The SDL tool can apply to all members, regardless of their area of practice or work setting for the following reasons: • The SDL Tool is based on the Professional Standards for Dietitians in Canada . These standards are based on professional characteristics which are broad-based and apply to all practice areas and work settings. • For Part 1:Self-Assessment , you are asked to reflect on your competence, practice and clients. The Quality Assurance Committee has adopted a broad definition of a client being: …an individual, family and/or substitute decision-maker, group, agency, employer, employee, organization, or community who is a potential or actual recipient of the dietitian’s expertise. The client is unique and diverse in needs, culture, motivations, resources, religion, and perception of wellness. Or, more succinctly, client may include an individual, community, population, employees, employer who is the recipient of your services, regardless of practice setting. This definition
