Yes. The Department of Health in England has determined that this scheme is the most appropriate way of controlling these practices. The scheme has the support of the Chief Medical Officer for England, Sir Liam Donaldson and the Minister for health Mike O’Brien. The Independent Healthcare Advisory Services (IHAS), which represents the interests of the independent healthcare sector, is managing the scheme, working closely with the General Medical Council, the General Dental Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
