Does the Saver really save dolphins or is it just a useful tool that saves fishermen money?
The Saver really saves the life of dolphins directly and indirectly. Directly because each year hundreds of thousands of dolphins die in fishing nets. It is the biggest threat to dolphins in general all around the world. Some dolphin populations are even in serious danger of extinction. By placing Savers on the nets the dolphins stay way from this danger and this directly saves their life. Also, in some areas where dolphins steal fish from the nets, the fishermen have so much damage that some of them try to kill dolphins (with e.g. guns or dynamite). When fishermen use Savers they do not have this problem anymore and thus have no reason to try to kill dolphins and in this case the Saver indirectly saves the life of dolphins. Of course the Saver also saves the fishermen a great deal of money and trouble and that is exactly why the fishermen want to use Savers. So the Saver is an ecological device that is good for the dolphins and also for the fishermen and that why it is so successful.
