Does the same MLS service cover the whole State and/or the entire country?
• Our area MLS is the Southwest Multiple Listing Service (SWMLS) and is a part of the national MLS network. Nationally, each metropolitan area will have “its own” MLS service. • In the State of New Mexico, our MLS dominates the central State area, another MLS is specific to the northern parts and likewise a third serves the southern portion of the State. Because our MLS – the SWMLS – is the State’s largest by such a huge margin, you will typically find Sellers list with it even if they are more local to one of the smaller services. But in any case, a good way to think of the MLS is as a “national dish with local flavors.” • Another thing to recognize is that we members of SWMLS can easily search the homes in Santa Fe, for example, even though Santa Fe has “its own” MLS. Likewise the members of other MLS services can easily search the homes listed in ours.
