Does the R&TTE Directive apply to maritime radio equipment?
Only Radio equipment on board vessels which are not covered by IMO regulations (SOLAS) falls within the scope of the R&TTE Directive, i.e. equipment on inland waterway vessels and a large number of sea vessels. The Community is considering applying additional essential requirements for this kind of radio equipment. Some people argue, that it would be better to cover these types of equipment by extending the marine Directive (96/98/EC).
