Does the Roomba work on cluttered floors – hardwood w/ several rugs, chair/table legs, etc.?”

My little brother has one. The Roomba doesn’t work so well with a cluttered floor. It generally tries to cover the entire floor by wandering around randomly. If it hits a book or something, it will turn around and keep wandering, but it might never get to the spot it was going when it was blocked. So the coverage suffers, a lot more than you might expect. Same thing with table legs and chair legs. Basically the Roomba is too big to fit easily between chair legs, and since it just bumps around randomly, it essentially never cleans under the table. It will get hung up on area rugs sometimes, especially if it has tassels or a fringe. My brother thought that even if it does a crappy job, at least it would be better than nothing, which is what he doing before. But it turned out for it to basically function at all, he had to pick up the clutter on the floor, and if he has to do that, what’s the point? So he gave up on it.
