Does the repetition of the infinity symbol signify time?
The infinity symbol isn’t anything–it signifies infinity, but there is, as far as I know, no name for the symbol itself. It could be a sideways eight, but really the symbol just illustrates the idea, and that’s something that keeps going and going. Once I started seeing them it was hard to stop. People get tattoos of it and they name cars after it and they construct skyscrapers using it as a logo. Sometimes rubber bands twist into its shape. It’s another example of inquiry into the expansive and hard-to-define. Is there a mystical element in your work? Does a certain structure or belief system apply to the visual symbols? Sure, there’s that. Mysticism is one way of making sense of things that aren’t easily understood, and I believe in it sometimes. Odd and inexplicable things happen all the time, and there are ways of thinking about it–sometimes specific belief systems provide the clearest direction, but it depends on the situation.
